How to Remove Gel Nails at Home – The Process

By following our recommended method of gel nail polish removal, you would be in a good position to get rid of your old and faded gel nails at home that you would have had from a salon or did it yourself.

  1. First of all, clip off the extra nails that spread beyond your natural nails. Don’t touch your natural nails here. Clipping the extra nails would save your time and efforts.
  2. Now, that you are done with the clipping, use a nail filer or buffer to buff off most of the gel nail polish. Don’t do it too hard as you might be hurting your natural nails. Don’t go that deep. You can file till the mid of the gel nail polish.
  3. Now, here comes the main part. Take a bowl and pour some acetone into it. Use the cotton balls to soak the acetone and apply those balls on each of your nails. Make sure that you don’t use Acetone that much as it might result into yellowing of your natural nails.
  4. Now, take the aluminum foil already cut into square shapes. The foil should be cut into the pieces large enough to be wrapped around the whole of the acetone soaked cotton balls. Aluminum is recommended because it can easily hold the cotton balls and at the same time works with the body heat to accelerate the acetone process. Wrap the foil around each of the nail and let the acetone work for almost 15 minutes at least.
  5. After the suggested timeline, remove the aluminum foil off your nails. You should see the gel nail polish getting flaked off softly and easily. Most of the gel nail polish should have removed from all of the nails. If you see that there are still some remains on your nails, give some more time by repeating the acetone soaked ball wrapping for just 5 minutes more. You shall see the whole of the gel nail polish has been removed fairly.
  6. For the remaining smaller particles of gel nails, you can use a high-grit buffer to scrape off.
  7. So, how do you feel seeing your natural nails fresh and white again? It isn’t done yet. Don’t forget to keep hydrating your nails throughout the next 24 hours. Use cuticle oil to moisturize your nails. Now, you can also guide others on “how to remove gel nails at home”! Don’t you think?
